We had our first run on saturday morning, almost a week ago. Not everyone was there because our training schedule hasn't technically started, but there was still a good group to show. One team member, Jerry, amazes me. We started talking and he was worried about having never really run at all, and worried about finishing the 2 miles. We told him everyone had to start somewhere and even if he had to walk some, to at least finish it. When we finished the 2 miles, he came in a bit after my friend Whitney and I, and was excited to have finished - even though he didn't run it all. I then learned that not only had he just did his first consecutive 2 miles, but he did it after his 7th chemo session. Jerry was diagnosed a few months ago with Lymphoma in his arm, and will be completing 3 more sessions and then completing a marathon in October.
It's stories like that that make me keep running.
The official training schedule starts June 1, and I am actually excited!!
